HISTORY OF THE REMUDA

Millard Morris began putting together a mare program by purchasing 20 mares soon after he purchased Tongue River. These mares were impressive not only in bloodlines, but also in their ability to produce a good all-around ranch horse. Mr. Morris looked for size, bone structure, cow sense, speed and conformation.

Foundation sires chosen were King, Poco Bueno, Doc Bar, Tanquery Gin, Freckles Playboy, and Tenino Badger. Tongue River Ranch foaled 14 American Quarter Horses that year, thus the Remuda began. These stallions helped produce an outstanding herd of broodmares and gave TRR a solid foundation.

The modern bloodlines of Highbrow Cat, Mecom Blue, Playgun, and Peptoboonsmal have been added in recent years. Tongue River currently has 80 brood mares producing outstanding foals.
